First launched in 1897, Shiseido’s Eudermine Revitalizing Essence has remained a customer favourite over an extraordinary period of time, with an effective and luxurious formulation that has remained fundamentally unchanged since its creation.

The cosmetics commonly available during of Japan’s Taisho era—the period when Eudermine was first launched— were typically sold in medicinal-looking bottles with names like Komachi Mizu and Kirei Mizu.

Eudermine, a name drawn from the Greek words for “good skin,” broke this mold, offering customers a ruby-red skin-softening lotion so effective, it’s still sold today and beloved by women of all ages.

Eudermine’s bottle changed the future of cosmetics packaging, evolving the Japanese apothecary look to a stylishly feminine bottle design with eight cut facets at the shoulders, a flower-emblazoned label, and a sweet red bow around the bottle’s neck.

This remarkable longevity speaks to the power of skincare research, technology and science that is conceived with the future of each customer’s health and well-being in mind—a spirit that continues to thrive as Shiseido celebrates 140 years of creativity, science and beautiful innovations.
