Presto change-o!

A wave of the magician's wand - or in this case of the paint roller - and the same space becomes something completely different. If the French Country treatment was a bit too feminine or comfortably suburban, this is dramatically urban.

"We saw this Contemporary Modern treatment as suitable for a downtown couple, or even a single," explains Sharon. "It involved different colours, of course, but also new furnishings and some very striking artwork for the wall and a complete contrast in furniture…from off-white to solid black. It's definitely a room with attitude!"

The two treatments do have one colour in common - White Down CC-50, here used only for the trim. The splash of colour behind the bed is Lyons Red, CC-68, while the walls and ceiling are in three subtly-different greys - Metropolis CC-546, Boulevard CC-394 and Ice Breaker CC-428.

With its silk and leather bed setting - dramatically presented in front of the accent wall - and the luxurious soft white leather chair, it's a puzzle to know whether this is a masculine room or a feminine room. Most will find it intriguingly neutral.

The amazing vintage print echoes the drama of the bed setting, while formal columns of substantial gray fabric frame the curved window.

Grey and red may be a traditional colour combination, but presented this way they create a decidedly contemporary ambiance.
